Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large sweet potatoes
  • 1.5 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste
Optional Seasonings
  • chili powder optional
  • cinnamon for a sweet twist
  • rosemary or cayenne optional

Equipment

  • Large Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper or Silicone Mat
  • Mixing bowl

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment or silicone mat.
  2. Peel and cut sweet potatoes into thin, even matchsticks (about ¼ inch thick).
  3. Soak fries in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch (optional, but recommended).
  4. Drain and dry sweet potatoes thoroughly with a clean towel.
  5. Toss fries with cornstarch to coat. Add oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings. Toss again to combine.
  6. Arrange fries on the baking sheet in a single layer, leaving space between each piece. Use two pans if needed.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes, flip, then bake for another 10–15 minutes until golden and crispy.
  8. Optional: Broil for the last 2–3 minutes for extra crispiness. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

To reheat, bake at 400°F for 5–10 minutes or air fry. Freeze raw cut fries in a single layer, then transfer to a bag and bake straight from frozen when needed.
